Soong Li

Soong Li is a 200 year old azure Chinese lung (dragon). She feels most at ease when she is swimming. That is why she lives in Chungking; the city has fog three-fourths of the year, and she can swim in fog as if she is flying. As a lung, she is also enamored of anything related to pearls. She even traveled all the way to Hong Kong to swim in the Pearl River.

When she learns that Lake Dian in Kunming is called the Pearl of Yunnan, she must swim there, too. By doing so, however, she offends The Kunming Tiger, who considers it “his” lake. Since she didn’t ask permission to swim there, she has offended the Tiger.

When Soong Li refuses to apologize, the Kunming Tiger prepares his army to go to war to force an apology. Such a war could have immense effect on all of China.
